The Center will become the primary information source for the practicality, cost,
and availability of green technologies in Central Pennsylvania and for the most
appropriate green practice and lifestyle for this region. The Center will also host
public information seminars on green technology and practices.

The partners will respond to the needs of business, industry,
and municipalities by providing customized training, consulting, and the implementation
of green technology.

HACC and other academic partners will collaborate to offer degree and non-degree
classes in green subjects ranging from solar photovoltaic installation to green
building design and construction.

Area professional firms with green emphasis will be recruited to join the center,
to collaborate with each other and the schools in green building and community projects
in the area, and to assist in the Center’s educational mission.

Green Tips
Turn Your Computer Off at Night
The energy savings can really add up. In one year, if you shut your machine off at night, you’ll save an average of $90 worth of electricity.
Insulate Your Water Heater
Hot water accounts for 13% of a typical utility bill, so improving efficiency goes a long way. Consider wrapping your old heater in a layer of insulation. For the nominal cost of about $15, an insulating jacket can reduce heat lost through the walls of the tank by 25-40%.
Choosing a better bulb
Switching from incandescent bulbs to compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) will cut your dependence on energy and save you about $25 to $60 per CFL. CFLs may be higher in cost, but each lasts ten to fifteen times longer than an incandescent that provides the same light, at a quarter to a third the cost per hour.
